Weightlifting tests explosive strength.

Olympic weightlifting is an athletic discipline in the modern Olympic programme. An athlete will attempt a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates in two different disciplines – the Snatch or Clean and Jerk. Unlike conventional strength training, rather than testing the limits of your strength, Olympic Movements are executed faster, with more mobility and harness a greater range of motion than other strength movements. If properly executed, the snatch and the clean and jerk are both dynamic and explosive in nature but graceful in appearance.

While there are relatively few competitive Olympic weightlifters, the lifts and component lifts – e.g deadlifts, cleans and squats – performed in the sport are commonly used by elite athletes in other arenas to develop explosive and functional strength.
